Invisalign Invisible Braces

When it comes to straightening teeth, a traditional cosmetic dentist in Toronto’s only real recourse used to be metal braces or a retainer. While these are effective options, there are some patients who are looking for a solution that is less visible, or less of a hassle.

For these patients, Invisalign presents itself as an ideal solution. Invisalign works mechanically similarly to traditional braces, without several of the big disadvantages.

Invisalign consists of a series of clear moulds of your teeth, made from a patented flexible thermoplastic material called SmartTrack. A number of moulds are created, and replaced every week or two, based on a unique digital plan allowing you and your dentist to shape your teeth gradually in an iterative process. This works by designing the moulds to apply just enough force to move your teeth to where they need to be to fit the next mould in the series.

There are several advantages for the patient using Invisalign as opposed to traditional braces or retainers. For one, you can insert or remove your Invisalign mould at will, meaning you can remove them to eat, drink, brush and floss your teeth, and when you’re done, simply put them back in. Another advantage to Invisalign is that it’s clear, allowing you to look your best while your teeth are being straightened.

From a technical standpoint, Invisalign can also work faster than conventional braces. Some studies show Invisalign working as much as 50% faster than its wire and bracket counterparts.

Another advantage is that there’s no chance of cutting your cheeks, as Invisalign conforms to your teeth, creating no sharp edges.
